Traveling Chabad photographer, Meir Alfasi, visited his 110th country and embarked on an adventurous journey to Myanmar, a country that has been in the grip of a civil war and under military rule in recent years, causing the Shluchim to relocate.
During his visit, he stopped in the empty shul of Matzmiach Yeshuah community in Yangon and met with the last remaining Jews in the country. He then visited the only Jewish cemetery in Myanmar.
I’m curious to learn more about the shul and their Sifrei Torah – and the jewish community there in general. How old is the jewish community there? When did they get there? How old are their sifrei Torah? Are they in good condition? What Mesorah do they follow? So interesting. I had no idea there were ever any jews there.
