Today: Take Part in the Rebbe’s Magbis
With Yud Beis Tammuz falling out on Shabbos, the time to fulfill the Rebbe’s annual call for the day is today, Friday.
Every year, when Yud-Beis Tammuz came around, Chassidim knew there was one thing they could expect at the Rebbe’s farbrengen:
The magbis for Oholei Yosef Yitzchok, the network of schools in Eretz Yisroel known as the Reshet.
Year after year, the Rebbe would speak about the Reshet and call on Chassidim to donate toward its expenses. Many times, the Rebbe also gave brachos to those who participated, even saying he would daven for them at the Ohel of the Frierdiker Rebbe, the baal hageulah.
In the moments after the Rebbe made the magbis appeal, 770 would spring into motion. Papers and pens were passed around. Chassidim rushed to write down their pledges and send their notes up to the dais. The Rebbe’s secretaries would gather the notes into a large paper bag, which the Rebbe himself would carry out of the farbrengen at its conclusion.
Divrei tzaddikim chaim v’kayamim la’ad – the Rebbe’s brachos live on.
Today, Oholei Yosef Yitzchok continues to flourish in Eretz Yisroel, providing authentic Yiddishe chinuch to growing numbers of students across the country, and fulfilling the Rebbe’s vision for a national Chinuch network on a scale never seen before.
And with Yud-Beis Tammuz falling on Shabbos this year, today is the day to take part.
