An incredible, heartwarming story happened this year on Lag BaOmer after a shliach decided to go out of his way and “sacrifice” his own needs to help another shliach during a visit to the Ohel.

The story was shared by Rabbi Shmuly Rothman, a fundraising coach for shluchim, who heard it directly from the shliach involved.

On Lag BaOmer this year, the shliach visited the Ohel together with a very affluent baalabos whom he was bringing there for the first time. Like always, he had many personal requests and financial needs to daven for, in order to support and strengthen his shlichus.

While at the Ohel, he noticed the wife of a neighboring shliach there. He knew that this neighboring shliach was in the middle of a major purchase for his shlichus, and he also knew that they had no real financial backing and no one to turn to.

At that moment, the shliach made a decision. He thought to himself: I am about to go into the Ohel to ask for my own brachos, and I have many places I can turn to for help. But here is another shliach standing in real need, with nowhere to turn.

He decided on the spot that he was going to do something for them.

After davening at the Ohel, the shliach brought his visitor over and introduced him to the neighboring shlucha, and asked if he would be interested in helping them out. The man was pleased to help and said he would be in touch.

They then went to watch the video, and to their surprise, the Rebbe was speaking strongly about the importance and value of giving tzedakah.

On the way back from the Ohel, they continued talking in the car. The shliach explained more about the neighboring shliach’s situation, that they were in the middle of purchasing a property and were facing an urgent need.

The donor asked, “How much do they need?” The shliach answered with a specific amount.

“And how much are you asking me for?” the donor continued.

“The full amount,” the shliach replied.

“Done deal”, the man said without hesitation, “I will wire the money.”

He then shared his side of the story. “When I was at the Ohel,” he said, “I promised the Rebbe that I was committing a certain large amount of money to tzedakah. That exact number is the amount you just requested!”

Three days later, the full wire came through to the account of the neighboring shluchim, and the shliach was able to share the good news with the Rebbe.

“What will be with his own financial needs that he went to daven for?” the shliach concluded, “I have no doubt – we will have what we need.”
