While Purim is still 2 weeks away, in the Central American country of Nicaragua, preparations are already underway for the large public Seder it will be holding this Pesach.
Shliach Rabbi Dovid Atar invited international shochet Rabbi Eliyahu Ezagui from New York to arrange a local shechita for Pesach. This is only the second shechita production in the country’s history.
The shechita run included a large number of cattle and sheep that will enable Jewish visitors to Nicaragua and Jews of the local community to eat locally sourced kosher meat. After the shechita, the chickens were kashered and frozen, ready to be used for many Chabad House events over the coming months.
A certified shochet, Ezagui has done dozens of such Shchita runs for Chabad Houses worldwide, including two recent trips to Belize, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Peru. Animals are slaughtered with the highest kosher standards to ensure that every Jewish visitor will have kosher meat to eat.
