Just a few weeks after new shluchim were appointed to open the first Chabad in S. Teresa, Costa Rica, a second couple are headed to Jacó, Costa Rica, where they will also open the district’s first Chabad House.

Rabbi Shiyaleh and Adina Lipkin, together with their young son Memkeh, will establish Chabad of Jacó, a beautiful district in Costa Rica known for its breathtaking nature, including a 2.5-mile-long black sand beach. “We intend to bring the beauty of Yiddishkeit to the area as well,” they said.

For many years Rabbi Hershel Spalter, Head Shliach of Costa Rica, sent bochurim to the area to serve the small local Jewish community as well as tourists. After nearly 20 years, the time came for the area to get permanent shluchim.

The Lipkins traveled to Jacó this past Purim, where they held programs for the Yom Tov. “We found local Jews who are thirsty for Judaism, and many travelers who, precisely in this distant and beautiful place, open up and want to hear and taste Yiddishkeit,” Rabbi Lipkin told Anash.org.

After a successful Purim, the couple remained in the country until after Pesach in order to distribute matzah to locals and visitors in the wider region and hold public sedorim, Torah classes, a seudas Moshiach and more.

Ahead of Rosh Hashana and the Tishrei Yomim Tovim, the Lipkins are setting out to move to Jacó on a long-term basis and open the first Chabad House in the area.
