R’ Shloma Zuntz, 83, AH

R’ Shloma Zuntz, a longtime resident of Crown Heights who devoted decades to assisting Soviet Jewry and rebuilding Jewish life across the Former Soviet Union, passed away on Erev Sukkos, 14 Tishrei.

He was 83 years old.

As the work of Lishkas Ezras Achim expanded, R’ Shloma was brought in to oversee its day-to-day operations. Working largely behind the scenes, he helped coordinate the organization’s extensive efforts to sustain Jews behind the Iron Curtain, sending vital packages and religious supplies while carefully protecting the secrecy of those involved. Over the years, the work grew to include arranging visits and shluchim to the Soviet Union and, with the collapse of Communism, helping rebuild Jewish communal life across the region.

He is survived by his wife, Yocheved, and his sons, Avremi Zuntz – Crown Heights, and Dovi Zuntz – Dijon, France.
