Photos: Breathtaking Views of Chamonix and Mont-Blanc

Lubavitcher photographer Mordechai Lubecki recently spent a day exploring Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in southeastern France, photographing the dramatic mountain scenery surrounding one of the best-known destinations in the French Alps.

Lubecki ascended to an altitude of 3,842 meters, capturing sweeping views over the mountains and the Mont Blanc region.

Following the visit to Chamonix, he returned to Aix-les-Bains, approximately an hour and a half away, where he was spending Shabbos and Rosh Hashanah.

There, he toured the local Jewish community together with shliach Rabbi Doron Nager, visiting two shuls and a yeshiva and getting a closer look at Jewish life in the Alpine city.

Chamonix also carries a remarkable chapter of Jewish wartime history. Historian Valérie Portheret, in her book Vous n’aurez pas les enfants, recounts the rescue of 108 Jewish children from the Vénissieux camp in August 1942. Among them were three sisters who were hidden in Chamonix until the end of the war.
