On the 4th night of Chanukah, Rabbi Dani and Rochel Libersohn will relocating to Reno, Nevada to establish a permanent Chabad presence at the University of Nevada, commonly known as UNR.

This week, Rabbi Dani and Rochel Libersohn, along with their newborn daughter, Devorah Leah, will be joining the Rebbe’s team of Shluchim, and relocating to Reno, Nevada. Their mission? To establish a permanent Chabad presence at the University of Nevada, commonly known as UNR.

UNR is located in the heart of downtown Reno and in close proximity to the famous Lake Tahoe. With a student population of 20,000 students and an ever growing Jewish student body, the need for a full time Jewish presence on campus is now a necessity. That’s where Chabad at UNR comes in.

“We will be focusing on developing personal relationships with our Jewish students; establishing a variety of exciting student programs, and overall, instilling a passion for Yiddishkeit upon campus” says Rabbi Dani.

The Libersohns are working closely together with the existing Jewish organizations on campus to make sure that the needs of all Jewish students’ are met.

“Over the past months we have met many Jewish students and begun to foster warm friendships”, Rochel shared. “The Pesach seder we hosted last year was the first in-person Jewish experience on campus for many students. We have received tremendous feedback and the students are eagerly awaiting our full time presence.”

A close friend of Chabad of Northern Nevada and the Jewish community at large is Brian Sandoval, the President of UNR and a former Governor of Nevada. He is fondly anticipating the arrival of Chabad on campus, eager to see what they have in store.

As as a native of Reno herself, Rochel is looking forward to engaging with the community she was raised in. Dani was born and bred in Mexico City, and is excited to share the vibrancy of Mexico City’s Jewish community with others. The Libersohns were appointed by Rabbi Mendel and Sarah Cunin, co directors of Chabad of Northern Nevada and by Head Shliach of California and Nevada, Rabbi Shlomo Cunin. They will be moving on Shlichus on the 4th night of Chanukah.

Rabbi Dani and Rochel are thankful to Chabad on Campus International for their immense support in navigating their way through the numerous challenges of establishing a new Chabad house on campus.

Tonight, the first night of Chanukah, help Chabad at UNR raise $100,000 to kickstart their activities on campus and bring the warmth and joy of Yiddishkeit to every Jewish student.
