Meta has officially launched WhatsApp Plus, introducing a new optional paid subscription tier for the popular messaging app.

Unlike the unofficial “WhatsApp Plus” apps that circulated online in the past and were linked to scams and security concerns, the new WhatsApp Plus is an official subscription from Meta.

The plan, priced at $2.99 per month in the United States, focuses mainly on personalization and organization rather than changing the core messaging experience. Subscribers can access exclusive sticker packs, choose from a collection of custom WhatsApp icons, change the app’s colors and theme, and use exclusive ringtones for calls.

WhatsApp Plus also adds more control over chats, allowing subscribers to pin additional conversations to the top of their Chats tab and use upgraded chat lists to better organize conversations.

Screenshots of the subscription show a one-month free trial before billing begins, with all benefits managed directly inside WhatsApp’s subscription settings.

Meta says the regular WhatsApp experience remains unchanged. Messaging, calls, encryption, and existing features will continue to remain available for free, and users who do not subscribe can continue using WhatsApp normally.

The launch is part of Meta’s broader move to introduce optional paid subscriptions across its apps, including Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus, with more subscription offerings expected in the future.
