Looking to show appreciation for those who risk their lives with mesirus nefesh, a Lubavitch couple, with the help of the Ezer Lachayal organization, celebrated their Sheva Brochos with a celebratory meal at a military base near the Gaza border.
In these days of war, as IDF soldiers stand guard at the Gaza border, standing in true mesirus nefesh to protect Am Yisroel, a young Chabad couple chose to mark their Sheva Brochos celebration in a uniquely meaningful way – together with the soldiers in the field.
“We were looking for the most fitting place to celebrate our simcha,” shares the new chosson, “and we found the perfect location – with the soldiers about whom the Rebbe said that they ‘literally risk their lives with true mesirus nefesh.'”
This special event was initiated by Ezer Lachayal organization, which works tirelessly to strengthen soldiers both materially and spiritually, under the dedicated leadership of Rabbi Eliyahu Gutman and the organization’s devoted team. The young couple arrived at a military base near the Gaza border, where soldiers were preparing for an operational mission to destroy terrorist infrastructure. A celebration filled with true inspiration and kedusha took place, with senior commanders being honored with the Sheva Brochos, creating an atmosphere filled with kedusha and kabolas ol malchus shamayim.
A particularly touching moment occurred when one of the commanders stood up to speak. “I know Chabad well and have great respect for you,” the commander began, “and therefore I would like to share a dvar Torah.” In his words, the commander drew a connection between the Chabad minhag of going on shlichus after marriage and the week’s parsha, ‘Lech Lecha.’
“You, Chabadnikim, came here on a shlichus to the army to strengthen us, the soldiers,” the commander said with emotion, “and I tell you as an IDF commander and soldier – go on shlichus! This is the idea of parshas ‘Lech Lecha’ – a call to every Jew to go out and perform mitzvos and maasim tovim, to reach every place where there is a Jew, to establish a Beis Chabad and help Jews both materially and spiritually.”
During the event, many hachlatos tovos were made, and the celebration served as a tangible expression of the deep connection between the heroic soldiers and simchas mitzvah. “It’s a great zechus for us to bring simcha to the soldiers at this time,” concluded the chosson. “We saw with our own eyes how our wedding simcha connects with the shlichus of encouraging and strengthening the IDF soldiers, who are moser nefesh to protect Am Yisroel’s security.”
