As communities around the world mark fifty years since the Rebbe’s call to study Hilchos Beis Habechirah during the Three Weeks, a daily shiur is once again being held at the Rebbe’s Kollel in Crown Heights.

The source for this practice is found in a Medrash quoted repeatedly by the Rebbe. When Hashem instructed Yechezkel to teach Klal Yisroel about the future Beis Hamikdash while they were still in Golus, Yechezkel questioned what purpose there was in studying its design before it could actually be built. Hashem responded that learning the laws and design of the Beis Hamikdash is itself considered as though they had built it.

Based on this Medrash, the Rebbe launched a campaign fifty years ago calling on everyone to study Hilchos Beis Habechirah throughout the Three Weeks.

At the Rebbe’s Kollel in Crown Heights, the directive is observed each year with a daily shiur delivered by one of the Kollel yungerleit. The shiur is open to all members of the Kollel and is unique in its in-depth study of the Rambam’s Hilchos Beis Habechirah, carefully exploring the halachos together with their explanations.

The shiur takes place each evening at 6:30 p.m. throughout the Three Weeks, giving participants the opportunity to fulfill the Rebbe’s directive through the study of the Beis Hamikdash.
