A large crowd gathered at the yeshiva in Morristown to mark the shloshim of Rabbi Moshe Herson, head shliach to New Jersey and longtime dean of the yeshiva. Family, friends, and alumni came together to reflect on his unwavering dedication to the Rebbe’s shlichus and the many institutions he built.

The evening began with remarks from Rabbi Mendel Dubov, who spoke about the significance of 22 Shevat, noting the Rebbe’s words that this is a time when “the living should take to heart”.

Rabbi Asher Herson, son of Rabbi Hershon, led a siyum on Mishnayos, followed by kaddish. He then shared personal memories of his father’s devotion to his shlichus, always prioritizing the work of the Rebbe above all else. He noted his father’s simple lifestyle, recalling how as children, they would playfully lift the floor mat in the family’s old, rusted car to see the road beneath.

He spoke about his father’s approach to challenges, when he considered giving up on his early shlichus efforts due to difficulties, his father’s powerful response was: “You have two choices: Give up, or try harder.” This, he said, crystallized his father’s life philosophy.

Mendy Brafman, a grandson, shared a glimpse into Rabbi Herson’s life, recalling his early years in Brazil, his journey to becoming a chassid, and his deep commitment to his family.

Rabbi Mendy Herson, son of Rabbi Hershon, reflected on his father’s character, describing how he would have much preferred to be a mentor to guide individuals in their lives. But the Rebbe made him into a general and he embraced that.

Rabbi Chaim Brafman, son-in-law of Rabbi Herson, and Rabbi Sholom Spalter, maggid shiur in the yeshiva, spoke of Rabbi Herson’s relentless drive, emphasizing how he never slowed down, always looking for ways to grow, even in the last years of his life, when his health was declining.

Mr. Myles Berger, a longtime supporter and board member of the yeshiva, reflected on its humble beginnings and the extraordinary growth it experienced under Rabbi Herson’s leadership.

A video presentation was then shown, featuring moments of Rabbi Herson with the Rebbe.

The evening concluded with Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, representing Merkos Linyonei Chinuch, formally appointing Rabbi Mendy Herson to continue his father’s work with the support of a Vaad.

He also shared personal memories of Rabbi Herson’s strong leadership, recalling how his unique balance of discipline and warmth shaped generations of students. The greatest tribute to Rabbi Herson’s legacy would be to continue expanding and strengthening the Chabad presence in New Jersey and beyond.
