What’s the best way for kids to spend their time on Tisha B’Av?

In an ideal world, we’d want them to be focusing on topics relevant to Tisha B’Av, not just killing time so their parents can fast.

So let’s dream…

Kids sit down for hours to review the halachos and history of Tisha B’Av in a structured and age-appropriate manner. They learn about the Churban of both Bayis Rishon and Bayis Sheini, plus some of the other historical happenings of the day. They daven Mincha, learn Chitas, hear some Midrashim about the Churban and Tisha B’Av, learn who wrote Megillas Eicha and then, watch a Rebbe video, and participate in a siyum. By the end they understand the cause of the Churban and how painful it is, and also how it is part of preparing for the Geulah and the Third Beis Hamikdash.

Oh, and they should do this all eagerly, with no prizes or rewards. And it should be free for kids to participate.

The good news is that this isn’t a dream!

Baruch Hashem, for over a decade, thousands of kids have been spending hours on Tisha B’Av afternoon doing just that.

Through videos, animations, quizzes and games, all emceed by the inimitable puppet Katchkel, kids explore the various facets of Tisha B’Av — its history, halachos, and the Chassidishe approach to the day.

This year again, children are invited to join a free Tisha B’Av Camp from 2-6 pm EST. The camp takes place in the Beis Hamikdash, and if Moshiach is delayed, it is livestreamed on Chabad.org.

No pre-registration is required, though you may want to visit the page in advance to print out the optional coloring sheets and game boards.
