On Gimmel Tammuz, Harford Chabad in Bel Air, Maryland, celebrated the grand opening of its new Jewish Community Center, marking a milestone of growth and expansion for the community, which has served the Jews of Northeast Maryland for 15 years.

More than 300 people gathered to celebrate the new center. The inauguration ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting, speeches, a community tour, and a festive reception. Local residents, visiting guests, dignitaries, members of the Bel Air Police Department, and Jewish families from across the region joined Harford Chabad’s founders, Rabbi Kushi and Fraida Schusterman, in marking this momentous occasion.

“Harford Chabad is more than just a synagogue. It’s a tight-knit community where people care and look out for each other,” said Rabbi Schusterman. “This new center is a dream come true. It will allow us to grow and create a welcoming space for all Jews, regardless of background or affiliation.”

The dedication ceremony opened with prayers and messages of support for Eretz Yisroel. Reflecting on recent events, Rabbi Schusterman noted, “Amid the tensions between Israel and Iran, our response is not fear, but faith and confidence. At this time, we are standing tall and proud. The opening of our new center is a sign of good times ahead.”

The building features a spacious Shul and social hall, a kosher kitchen, classrooms, a mikvah, and a Jewish library. With this new facility, Harford Chabad plans to expand offerings including Bar and Bas Mitzvah training and celebrations, wedding officiation, and new youth and educational initiatives.

As part of the celebration, it was announced that Rabbi Heschel and Doba Yarmush have joined Harford Chabad as new shluchim. Rabbi Yarmush will serve as director of education, and Doba Yarmush will take on the role of director of youth programming, helping further the center’s mission to support and strengthen Jewish life throughout Northeast Maryland.
