Couple and Daughter Perish in Monroe Fire

A home fire early Thursday morning claimed the lives of Kalman and Sarah Goldstein and their seven-year-old daughter Miriam in Monroe, near Kiryas Yoel.

A terrible tragedy occurred when a fire broke out overnight Wednesday in a home in Monroe, near Kiryas Yoel.

The Monroe Joint Fire District and Monroe Police Department responded to a home on Highland Avenue in Monroe at 12:55 a.m. for a reported house fire.

Firefighters and police officers at the scene were informed that a family was believed to be inside but they were unable to attempt a rescue due to the intensity of the flames.

Firefighters from Monroe and nearby fire districts extinguished the fire as quickly as they could but tragically, after entering the home, they discovered that a frum couple and their seven-year-old daughter had perished in the blaze.

The niftarim have been identified as Kalman Goldstein z”l, his wife Sarah a”h, and their daughter Miriam a”h.

Monroe Police Department Detectives are working closely with the Orange County Fire
Investigators, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Monroe Joint Fire District to determine the cause of the fire. The Monroe Police Department was assisted at the scene by New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps., and Kiryas Joel EMS.
