A handwritten manuscript of the Rebbe Maharash was brought to the Rebbe’s room and the Rebbe’s Library, where it was presented to Chief Librarian Rabbi Shalom Dovber Levine.

The manuscript was brought by Rabbi Moshe Orenshtein, Rosh Yeshiva of Chabad Yeshiva in Netanya, who has been involved in the redemption of rare kisvei yad kodesh of the Rebbeim. The treasured bichel, containing actual handwriting of the Rebbe Maharash, has now reached its rightful home among the priceless collection of kisvei yad kodesh in the Rebbe’s Library.

As previously reported on Anash.org, the manuscript was brought by Rabbi Orenshtein to the Yeshiva in Netanya, where the bochurim had the zechus to see the holy manuscript up close and hear the remarkable story of how it was redeemed after years of effort.

The manuscript had been in the possession of a dealer who had received it from Shimon Abramsky, a professor at Oxford University and the son of the famed gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky, author of Chazon Yechezkel. For seven to eight years, Rabbi Orenshtein remained in contact with the dealer in an effort to redeem the manuscript. At one point, when the dealer was involved in a din Torah concerning one million dollars, Rabbi Orenshtein suggested that he ask the Rebbe for a bracha. After the bracha was fulfilled, the dealer agreed to sell the manuscript for a price far below the original asking price.

With its arrival in the Rebbe’s library, another item belonging to the Rebbeim has been redeemed from captivity and at last returned home.
