Back for Purim, Bochurim Infuse Gateshead with Chassidus

A group of Brunoy bochurim visited Gateshead for Purim and Shabbos, where they inspired local bochurim to Chassidus study and met with elder Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Avrohom Gurwicz. They also did mivtzoim and put tefillin on a “karkafta” in the town center.

Having seen the tremendous impact of their visit earlier this year on Yud Tes Kislev to Gateshead, England, when they joined Mashpia Rabbi Nosson Gurary for a fiery farbrengen that inspired the yeshiva bochurim to learn and live with Chassidus, a group of bochurim from Brunoy – Mottel Kozliner, Zalman Ahron Browd, Mendel Bernstein, and Shimon Namirovsky – decided to return for Purim, picking up right where they left off.

From the moment they touched down, they got straight to work—Mivtzoim on Erev Purim. The Bochurim hit the streets, encouraging Yidden to put on tefillin. To their surprise, one teenage boy they approached admitted he had never put on tefillin in his life! Right there, he donned tefillin for the first time. Later, when the Bochurim shared their mivtzoim experience over Shabbos, the reaction from the locals and the praise for Lubavitch spoke volumes.

For Purim, the bochurim went to Newcastle upon Tyne where they assisted shliach Rabbi Aaron Modcha Lipsey. While there, they found a local Jew who knew nothing about Yiddishkeit.

Shabbos was spent at Europe’s largest Yeshiva in Gateshead. The bochurim from Brunoy and the bochurim from Gateshead are learning Masechta Kesubos, and they spoke with each other in learning.

The Shabbos was uplifted with farbrengens, where the bochurim infused the atmosphere with Chassidus, discussing the inner meaning of Purim and encouraging practical hachlotos. One powerful hachlata that many took upon themselves was to learn Tanya b’chavrusa. This was in addition to the Leil Shishi Chassidus shiur that had begun when the Bochurim first arrived on Yud Tes Kislev.

The bochurim also met with the Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Avrohom Gurwicz, one of the senior Litvishe Roshei Yeshiva.

The bochurim told the Rosh Yeshiva that they were learning Masechta Kesubos and he gave them his sefer on that Mesechta. The bochurim gave him several sefarim, including the latest kovetz haaros from the bochurim of Brunoy, a volume of Mei Tal from Brunoy Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Yechiel Menachem Mendel Kalmanson, and Shulchan Hazahav on the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch, authored by their Maggid Shiur, Rabbi Sholom Dovber Friedland.

The elder Rosh Yeshiva accompanied the bochurim to his door and gave them a bracha that they should learn b’shkida v’hasmada, with devotion and diligence.
