Surprise Gift with N’shei Chabad Newsletter Pesach issue

Readers of the N’shei Chabad Newsletter will receive a free book (!) with their Pesach issue, containing all of Lazer Raksin’s zany articles about mivtza tefillin that were published in the N’shei Chabad Newsletter over the decades.

Readers of the N’shei Chabad Newsletter are about to receive a surprise gift with their Pesach issue.

Can you guess what the gift is?

Nope. Not chocolate.

Nope. Not a joke column.

YOU’RE GETTING A FREE BOOK! A book of all of Lazer Raksin’s zany articles about mivtza tefillin that were published in the N’shei Chabad Newsletter over the decades.

This book comes to you directly as a gift from Lazer Raksin, who lives in Afula, Eretz Yisroel. Why did he do it? Here’s how he explains his goal:

It is now 25 years since my father’s passing, and I am about to turn 70. In honor of both occasions, I was inspired to collect all my articles that were published in the N’shei Chabad Newsletter (which we all know is read by men as well!) and publish them in a book. My goal? To show you that any man or boy can do mivtza tefillin! Even in his spare time. Especially if his wife or mother encourages and supports it! (At my age, today, I would never do the things I did 25 years ago. I would never pester people the way I did. I would just move on to the next customer.) Honestly, I am tired. I just want Moshiach to come already. That’s the only way I’ll get a break, and a good night’s sleep. I won’t have to wake up every morning at four a.m. to run and put on tefillin with people before work. I will be able to sleep in until seven in the morning. So please accept my gift to you, readers of the N’shei Chabad Newsletter, and get all the boys and men in your life to do mivtza tefillin with chayus!

Thank you, Lazer! May your gift accomplish its holy goal, and the N’shei Chabad Newsletter and Anash.org are proud to be partners with you.

What else is in the Pesach issue? Esther Etiquette tells stories of how the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka handled people coming into the house with muddy boots.

The Rebbe Rashab encourages women not to overdo the Pesach preps. He writes, in a letter to N’shei uBnos Chabad:

The main thing is to be careful that the activities of cleaning for Pesach should not come at the expense of their health or strength… Women must be careful not to overwork themselves to the point where they cannot properly fulfill the mitzvos of the Seder night — the joy of the holiday, the drinking of the four cups, the reciting of the Haggadah, especially telling the story of yetzias Mitzrayim…

A wise and gracious woman named Irit Ben Aryeh eloquently describes, with awesome honesty and humility, what her husband went through on October 7th and the tragic result, as well as lessons for us from the family’s ongoing battle for not just survival, but success and happiness. May Hashem bring them full comfort.

Also in the Pesach issue, Musia Kaplan interviews Rabbi Shaya Shagalow, who works for an organization called Bayis Neman, which helps couples avoid divorce and achieve marital stability and happiness. What could be more important in this era of petty divorce (chas v’shalom), which harms children and adults alike?

In a Sefer HaSichos excerpt in this issue’s Chinuch Section, the Frierdiker Rebbe quotes the Alter Rebbe on why chassidim are called chassidim and misnagdim are called misnagdim. Suffice to say, when you read this, you’ll be happy to be in the former category! (Don’t miss that one.)

One of the goals of the N’shei Chabad Newsletter is to help people avoid needless suffering. An interview with Zvi Goldberg about the healing art of acupuncture, and another one with Shterny Farkash about babies (and their parents) suffering from colic, help accomplish that goal.

And the other goal of the NCN is to spread the Rebbe’s words on every topic. What accomplishes the Rebbe’s work more than the famous and popular JNet, which sets up learning partners for once-a-week learning sessions? Read all about it, and you’ll want to join!
