Crown Heights community patrol groups Shmira and Shomrim have issued public advisory notices regarding a potential increase in crime.

Now that New York City has closed all schools indefinitely due to the spread of the Coronavirus, community members are raised concern about this leading to many unsupervised youths hanging out on the streets looking for ways to spend their time.

In their public letter, Shomrim wrote “We would like to reassure everyone that as we have in the past, we will continue to answer your calls and remain committed to serving and protecting our community. We will be adding extra patrols throughout the day and are in constant communication with our local precinct to better serve the community.”

Shmira reminded the public to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, and not to hesitate to call if you see any suspicious activity.

They also wrote that they will be running extra patrols in marked cars with flashing lights and available to respond to any emergency calls.
