Rabbi Shmuly Altein, who served as a shliach to Winnipeg, Canada, and in recent years as a shul rabbi in Wesley Hills, NY, passed away on Thursday, Gimmel Tammuz, after a lengthy illness.

He was 43 years old.

Rabbi Shmuly Altein was born to his parents, Rabbi Avrohom and Mrs. Brocha Altein, who were sent by the Rebbe to Winnipeg in 1972.

After marrying his wife, Adina (née Duchman), the couple joined his parents on shlichus in Winnipeg, where he led adult education and JLI for over a decade. In recent years, he served as the assistant rabbi at the Baal Shem Tov Shul in Wesley Hills, NY.

In recent years, he struggled with a terrible illness, and many davened for him. Tehillim groups were opened with hundreds of members who said Tehillim 1617 times.

He is survived by his wife, Adina, and children: Mussi, JJ, Sroly, Goldy, and Yossi.

He is also survived by his parents, Rabbi Avrohom and Brocha Altein of Winnipeg, Canada, and siblings Mrs. Chanie Zaklikovsky, Mrs. Nechama Piekarski, Mrs. Rivky Strasberg, Rabbi Yisroel Altein, Rabbi Tzvi Altein, Mrs. Shayna Matusov, Rabbi Boruch Altein, and Rabbi Mendel Altein, and his in-laws, Rabbi Mendel and Rochel Duchman of Los Angeles, California.

The levaya will take place on Friday, passing by 770 at 12:00 pm on the way to kevurah near the Ohel at 1 pm.
