In the latest episode of Headlines Podcast, host Reb Dovid Lichtenstein interviewed Rav Leibel Schapiro, Rov and Rosh Yeshiva in Miami.
After a recent guest spoke unfavorably about the Rebbe and Lubavitch, Mr. Lichtenstein received many calls from Lubavitchers, prompting him to invite Rabbi Shapiro to explain Chabad’s stance on a diverse range of topics to the “broader world.”
In addition, shluchim from six different continents were brought on to talk about the incredible work and mesirus nefesh of the shluchim across the globe. They are:
Rabbi Noam Wagner, Rosh Yeshiva in Johannesburg, South Africa
Rabbi Schneur Zalman Zaklos, shliach to Novosibirsk, Siberia
Rabbi Tzvi Grunblatt, shliach to Argentina
Rabbi Mendy Chitrik, shliach to Istanbul, Turkey
Rabbi Moshe Raskin, shliach to Uganda, Africa
Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Groner, shliach to Melbourne, Australia
The Headlines Podcasts covers the intersection of contemporary issues and halacha, and can be found here. The full podcast on Lubavitch hashkafa is presented below.

There’s a story a certain Rebbe ( I think one of the Chernobylers) was visiting in a town inn, who’s owner wasn’t a Chosid. Friday night while they’re in shul the owner’s child choked on a bone and was Niftar. The father comes home, and his wife tearfully tells him of what happened. He hardly reacts. “Nu Nu”. Thinking maybe it’s because of Shabbos, that he doesn’t want to cry, the Chasidim wait for Motzoei Shabbos, sure that the dam will burst right after Havdole. But lo and behold he continues acting his usual self. Shocked the Chasidim ask him how can he be so calm after so tragically losing his son. He responded: My wife is the sister of Ren Ahron Karliner (I think that’s who it was. Definitely one of the big Rebbe’s of the time.) And the Gemarah says “most sons are similar to the mother’s brothers… Nu, he would’ve probably been a Chosid like his uncle… ” Observing all this, the Chernobyler commented: Ot dos iz an EMESER MISNAGED.
Hearing the continued opposition of Rabbi Gifter (father and son) even after the Rebbe offers to save his Yeshivah financially, and after admitting to the many aspects of the Rebbe’s greatness, and he continues to oppose (and even ridicule some things) it reminds me of this story. (Although, hearing him run dry on responses at some points, I’m hesitant of we can afford to give him such an honorary title as “EMESER Misnaged”….
Bottom line, the saying goes: המתנגדים מעריכים את החסידים אך שונאים אותם, והחסידים אינם מעריכים את המנגדים אך אוהבים אותם.
We need to make sure to keep to our part of it.
Yasher Koach to Anash.org for presenting quality material on such a fine platform.
Correction: The Misnaged’s wife was Reb Aharon Strasheler’s sister. (Not Karlin).
