A new 5-member Vaad Hashluchim was recently elected in the State of New Jersey to serve alongside Rabbi Mendy Herson, who was appointed Shliach Roshi following the passing of New Jersey’s legendary Head Shliach and Dean of the Rabbinical College of America, Rabbi Moshe Herson AH.
Elected to 3-year terms were: Rabbi Shalom Lubin, Rabbi Avi Richler, Rabbi Sholly Leverton, and Rabbi Moshe Gourarie. Rabbi Ephraim Simon, who was appointed to New Jersey’s original Vaad 15 years ago, will stay on and join the new Vaad for a one-year term, ensuring a smooth transition.
Over 90% of New Jersey Shluchim families voted in the elections, which were operated by Canadian-based voting company Simply Voting and overseen by an election committee consisting of Rabbi Yisroel Bennish and Rabbi Mendy Mangel. A two-tiered voting process ensured that the Vaad members would not be related to each other or the Shliach Roshi.
Last week, the new Vaad members and Rabbi Mendy Herson met at the Ohel and wrote a Pan asking for the Rebbes Brochos for all the Shluchim in New Jersey and for guidance in fulfilling all of the Rebbes directives.
They also spent time at the Kever of Rabbi Moshe Herson z’l and visited the Kvarim of Rabbi Levi Wolosow z’l and Rabbi Yisroel Rapoport z’l, beloved and dearly departed longtime Shluchim in New Jersey, as well as the Kvarim of Rabbi Zalman Wilchansky z’l and Rabbi Meilach Zweibel z’l of Tomchei Temimim Morristown.
The new Vaad will work to support the work of NJ’s Shluchim and Shluchos, striving to meet their unmet needs and create new opportunities for growth.
