Mrs. Rochel Chaiton, who served as an educator for close to four decades in Portland, Oregon, and Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, 19 Teves, 5784.
She was 57 years old.
Rochel was born in Moscow to her parents Moshe and Rivkah Shubov.
When she was about six years old, she moved with her family to Eretz Yisroel for a few years, and later to Crown Heights. There, she attended Beis Rivkah and afterwards taught in Oholei Torah.
In Sivan 5748, she married Rabbi Yoseph Chaiton and moved on Shlichus to Portland, Oregon, where she would go on to teach for the next 30-plus years. She was known for her creative teaching methods and beautiful artwork to bring the lessons to life. She instilled a warmth and love for Yiddishkeit in her students.
In 5778, she and her husband continued their Shlichus in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Desert Torah Academy.
She is survived by her husband, Rabbi Yoseph Chaiton, and her sons Rabbi Dovber Chaiton – Las Vegas, Nevada; and Shmueli Chaiton – Crown Heights; and grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings Bentzion Shubov – Crown Heights; Mendel Shubov, Toronto; and Esther Krinsky, Crown Heights.
The levaya will take place on Thursday at 10:40 AM in front of 770.
