Treasures from the Rebbe’s Library: Watch Rabbi Shalom Ber Levin exhibit the eyeglasses that the Frierdiker Rebbe purchased in Riga, along with other holy belongings.
As we approach the day of Yud Shevat, the eyeglasses of the Rebbe Rayatz, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch, are presented here – in the Exhibition of Our Rebbes, at the Library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad.
This style of eyeglasses is also known as a lorgnette or pince-nez, which do not have temples. They have a handle on one side with which they can be held.
According to the glasses-case and photographs, it seems that they were manufactured in Riga, and that he used these eyeglasses, from when he lived in Riga, until his last days.
