Israel’s President Hosts Special Event to Honor the Rebbe

Ahead of Gimmel Tammuz, Israel’s President Yitzchak Herzog hosted a special event at the President’s Residence in Yerushalayim, paying tribute to the Rebbe and the worldwide work of his shluchim.

President Yitzchak Herzog hosted a special event at the President’s Residence in Yerushalayim ahead of Gimmel Tammuz, paying tribute to the Rebbe and the vast network of Shluchim established under his direction, which continues to care for every Yid wherever he may be.

The event was attended by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Gluckowsky, deputy secretary of Beis Din Rabbonei Chabad in Eretz Yisroel; Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Aharonov, chairman of Tzeirei Agudas Chabad; dozens of Shluchim from Eretz Yisroel and abroad; and representatives of families affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, who were brought to Eretz Yisroel through the rescue operation carried out by Tzach in accordance with the Rebbe’s instruction. The event was emceed by Rabbi Shimi Segal, the Rebbe’s Shliach to the Knesset and Chabad spokesman.

Addressing the gathering, President Herzog spoke emotionally about the Rebbe’s care for every single Jew. “I am very happy to see you here,” he said. “Chabad is one large family. I often think about the story I told in the European Parliament: during the Holocaust, the Nazis kept exact records of the Jews, and when they discovered that there was an island with just one Jew on it, they sent an entire ship to capture him. By contrast, Chabad, under the Rebbe’s instruction and leadership, worked with courage to find and save every Jew they could reach. In my eyes, this is something tremendous that must be told.”

The president thanked Tzach, the families, and all those involved in the work of chesed and rescue, saying it was moving to see people who had endured great hardship, overcome all odds, and rebuilt their lives in Eretz Yisroel. He concluded with wishes for good news and for continued efforts to spread Ahavas Yisroel, unity, chesed, and hope.

At the conclusion of the event, the president invited the rabbonim and Shluchim for a group photo in the courtyard of the President’s Residence. He also received the Education Day declaration in honor of the Rebbe, which he had signed earlier, from Aguch secretary Rabbi Ariel Lemberg.
