Recess is a time when kids need to take a break, socialize, and relax. But in Lubavitch Yeshiva of Crown Heights the boys are not taking a break these days. They are in full-throttle, working on a present for the Rebbe’s birthday.

That’s right! Mishnayos Baal Peh! Just walk into the hallway: kids are pacing back and forth, Mishnayos in hand, memorizing line by line.

Across the globe, schools are using all types of incentives to encourage the kids to learn more. But Lubavitch Yeshiva has found that there is no bigger incentive for the Talmidim than the learning itself.

To this end, at every recess there are testers available and the scores are updated in real time. The talmidim can see how they rank and the points they earned on the wall-mounted tablets in the hallways. Their own successes drive them further.

Take a look at the new marking system put in place by United Lubavitcher Yeshiva for the boys to set themselves goals, compete with their peers and stay focused, based on the successful camp model of blues, yellows and reds. This online system keeps track of every line learned, who was tested and by whom, and how long until it’s time for chazora.

Yessir, that’s exactly right: chazora! It would be a shame to forget all the learning simply because a boy neglected the chazora. Each month the talmid can repeat a perek or mesechta and get more points; in fact, 50% more points!
