For the first time, the mayor of Wilkes-Barre, PA, signed a proclamation declaring the Rebbe’s birthday as Education and Sharing Day USA.

The event was held in the days leading up to Yud Alef Nissan and was arranged by Rabbi Zali Shifren of neighboring Kingston. Also at the signing ceremony were Rabbi Tzvi Perlman, head shliach of the Wilkes-Barre region, and mashpia Rabbi Pinny Levitin.

Wilkes-Barre is well-known in Lubavitch for the “Wilkes-Barre Yeshiva,” under Rabbi Uri Perlman, which was based in that city for over 15 years. The yeshiva has since relocated to the Poconos, but is still widely known by that name. It also neighbors the booming Anash community in Kingston.

Rabbi Shifren shared his motivation in organizing the proclamation.

“These proclamations play a significant role in the final redemption, as nations recognize the universal values of the Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach. The Rebbe’s vision for a world where all people live in accordance with these laws is becoming a reality, one proclamation at a time.”

“This proclamation is something within everyone’s reach to accomplish,” Rabbi Shifren added, “if you go out there with the Rebbe’s koach!  Reach out today to your local mayor or politician of such stature to call on all citizens to make this Yud Alef Nissan a national holiday.

“May we all merit to the final Geulah with the Rebbe at our lead!”
