Frankie Light, a young non-Jewish man who grew up near Crown Heights, wanted to hone his Yiddish language skills. He ended up getting many laughs and a life lesson from a Crown Heights mashpia.

“I went to my old neighborhood to practice some Yiddish in the orthodox Jewish section of Crown Heights,” Frankie shared on his YouTube channel.

“I’ve been learning by using Duolingo and wanted to show you guys what interactions look like when you’re just starting out with limited knowledge of the target language.

“You should not let it stop you from speaking the language. I then was invited to explore and learn more about the Orthodox Jewish beliefs and customs!

“This was a great experience and I appreciate the warm welcome I received from the Jewish community that day.”
