Hundreds of members of Boro Park frum communities gathered for a Hachnasas Sefer Torah dedicated in memory of Reb Yoel Kahn, the Rebbe’s chozer and foremost teacher of Chassidus in the generation.
The Torah, which was concluded on Reb Yoel’s yahrzeit in his Crown Heights home, was dedicated to the Beis Menachem Shul in Boro Park, where Reb Yoel spent countless hours spreading the light of Chassidus.
The celebration began at the Boro Park home of Rabbi Leibel Altein, head of Heichal Menachem and prominent student of Reb Yoel. It was escorted from his home with lively music and a procession of dancing men and children holding torches.
As the Torah made its way down the streets, prominent rabbonim from local communities joined the celebration, standing alongside mashpi’im from Crown Heights and family members of Reb Yoel from around New York.
The crowd danced its way with the Torah from Rabbi Altein’s home on 52nd St. to Bais Menachem on 16th Ave., paying tribute to Reb Yoel who had brought the light of Chassidus to those same streets.
The Torah was donated in memory of Reb Yoel by an anonymous donor לזכות חיים צבי בן שולמית and אברהם מאיר הכהן בן חי’ שרה, and the writing of the Torah and the celebration was coordinated Rabbi Dovid M. Meizlish of Boro Park.
