Two Israelis were killed and more than 100 people were injured after rockets, fired from the Gaza Strip, slammed into a number of homes in Ashkelon and Ashdod.

One of the victims was an elderly woman in her 80s and the other in her 60s. Of those wounded, several are listed in critical condition including a number of children.

The cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon sustained at least eight direct hits from rockets on Tuesday afternoon after Gaza terrorists fired dozens of projectiles in minutes in what Hamas claimes was the largest barrage ever.

More than 300 rockets have been fired from Gaza since Monday evening. The IDF has responded with airstrikes on dozens of targets in Gaza, in what it has dubbed “Operation Guardian of the Walls.”

In retaliation for the attacks, the IDF eliminated the head of Islamic Jihad’s special rocket unit, Sameh Abed al-Mamluk, along with several other senior rocket officials,

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi ordered the continued striking of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad weapons and storage sites as well as the expanding of the strikes to other targets including operatives of the terror groups.
