Hundreds of fathers and sons of Oholei Torah mesivta gathered for a melava malka and farbrengen celebrating the Alter Rebbe’s release from Czarist prison on Yud Tes and Chof Kislev.
The yomtov seuda and melava malka was celebrated at the yeshiva’s new campus at 555 Remsen Ave. In order to accommodate the large crowd, the yeshiva shluchim and shiur gimmel bochurim transformed the school gym into a beautiful ballroom befitting the celebration.
Menahel Rabbi Moshe Silman spoke how the Alter Rebbe chose to go to prison because chassidus demands that he our avodas hashem goes thorough physical channels. Addressing the bochurim he said that it is their job to finish the avodas habirurim started by the Alter Rebbe and that shouldn’t shy away from their responsibility.
Rabbi Zalman Moshe Drizin, father of a student in mesivta, spoke to the bochurim about the true pleasures of studying Torah and davening. He also exhorted the parents to encourage and join the bochurim in their avodas Hashem. Rabbi Shimon Rivkin brilliantly moderated the event.
Several students spoke as well. Hatomim Yosef Yitzchak Morozov shared a sicha of the Rebbe, Hatomim Moshe Lein made a siyum on Tanya and Hatomim Levi Altein made a siyum on Hayom Yom.
Finally, the soul stirring sound of the Alter Rebbe’s niggun filled the auditorium as fathers and sons joined together to sing the daled bovos. This was followed immediately by spontaneous dancing celebrating the victory of the Alter Rebbe which began a new era in spreading the wellsprings of Chassidus.
