New York City and surrounding areas are preparing for a powerful winter storm expected to arrive Motzei Shabbos and intensify through Sunday, bringing heavy snowfall, bitter cold, and dangerous travel conditions across much of the region.

Snow is forecast to begin late Motzei Shabbos and continue into Monday, with the most hazardous conditions expected on Sunday. Officials warn that roads could quickly become very difficult, and significant flight delays and cancellations are likely at local airports.

Forecasters say New York City could see well over a foot of snow, while areas north of the city may receive even higher totals. The storm is part of a larger system affecting much of the eastern United States, meaning travel disruptions in other major cities could also impact flights and transportation in the New York area.

In response, Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a statewide state of emergency, placing transportation, emergency services, and public safety agencies on high alert. Plows and salt trucks are being prepared, and emergency operations centers are monitoring conditions around the clock.

Officials are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, prepare emergency supplies, and be mindful of extreme cold, which can be dangerous with prolonged exposure.
