Just one week after a bochur at the Yeshiva by the Ohel celebrated the completion of the entire Likkutei Sichos, a similar celebration was held in 770 to mark the conclusion of eight years of study.

The siyum celebration was held by Chaim Elimelech Wilhelm, who began learning Likkutei Sichos when he was in Shiur Alef of Mesivta. He studied one volume at a time, completing five volumes per year, and over the span of eight year completed all 39 volumes of Likkutei Sichos.

In a conversation with Anash.org, Wilhelm said that the most important thing in his eight year journey was consistency.

“Learning Likkutei Sichos is very enjoyable, and finishing the entire set is achievable for anyone, as long as they make a weekly study schedule and stick to it,” he said.

Besides for completing all the sichos, Wilhelm also learned the hosafos in each volume, containing selected sichos from the Rebbe’s farbrengens and letters pertaining to each Parsha.

“What’s especially gratifying about learning Likkutei Sichos in a specific order is that one is able to reference back to the sichos he learned, because he knows where and when he learned it,” he said.

The two modest celebrations held this past week perhaps belied the great achievements being marked. The hope of the mesayemim, however, is that such events should indeed become ordinary, as more and more Chassidim begin to set themselves a study regiment and a Siyum on Likkutei Sichos will become a commonplace event.
