S. Paulo Governor Hosts Proud Menorah Lighting
On the third night of Chanukah, S. Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas held a menorah lighting with local Jewish leaders. The Governor spoke of his recent visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel and pledged continued support for the Jewish community.
The third night of Chanukah was marked by a meaningful and uplifting candle-lighting ceremony held with the Governor of S. Paulo, Brazil, together with representatives of Chabad of Morumbi, led by Rabbi Dovid Goldberg, and representatives of the Federation of Greater São Paulo.
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas warmly received the delegation and participated in the lighting of the third candle, once again demonstrating his strong support for the Jewish community and reflected on the significant contributions the Jewish community has made to Brazil, highlighting its role in strengthening the nation’s social, cultural, and civic life.
During the gathering, he spoke about his meaningful visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel a few months earlier. During that visit, de Freitas had written a pan, and upon exiting the Ohel, he shared: “My mother would always tell me: ‘Protect the Jewish people, they are the chosen people.’”
Participants of the Chanukah gathering also fulfilled the mitzvah of tzedakah by placing charity into the charity box, reinforcing the message that light is spread not only through words, but through action.
The celebration was a powerful expression of friendship, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the well-being of the broader community, adding special meaning to this year’s Chanukah lights.
