Rabbi Naftali Weinstein, a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to chinuch and hafatzah in Monsey, NY, passed away on Thursday night, 19 Shevat.
Rabbi Naftali haCohen Weinstein, a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to chinuch and hafatzah in Monsey, NY, passed away on Thursday night, 19 Shevat.
He was 90 years old.
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, R’ Naftali was a survivor of the Holocaust. He and some of his family managed to escape and were interred as refugees in the Oswego refugee camp in Upstate New York. There, shluchim of the Frierdige Rebbe camp to see which Yidden they can take and enroll in Yeshivos. Young Naftoli was one of those children. He was zoche to have yechidus and receive a bracha from the Frierdiker Rebbe before his Bar Mitzvah, and later received many kiruvim from the Rebbe. He dedicated his life to chinuch and hafatzah, both in Sullivan County, the Bronx, and later, in Monsey.
The last few decades he was also rov of Cong. Nusach Ari in Monsey, a small Nusach Ari shul that grew into a center of davening and learning.
He leaves behind a legacy as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Weinstein, and his children: Rabbi Zev Weinstein – Hallandale, FL; Rabbi Yair Weinstein – Far Rockaway, NY; Rabbi Aryeh Weinstein – Shliach in Newtown, PA; Rabbi Avi Weinstein – COO of Chabad on Campus – Monsey; Rabbi Noach Weinstein – Crown Heights; R’ Sruli Weinstein – Boca Raton, FL.
The levaya will take place today, Friday, in front of 770 at 10:15 AM.
