New Shluchim to Nevada’s State Capital

Rabbi Levi and Chana Sputz, along with their sons Pinny and Huda, are moving to Carson City, Nevada, to establish a new Chabad House serving the Carson City area.

The Sputzes moved to Reno, 30 miles from Carson City, two years ago to open the Chabad Learning Center, where they began offering Torah classes for adults across Northern Nevada. Over time, they connected with Jewish communities in rural towns throughout the area, establishing regular classes and building strong relationships in each location.

In Carson City, what began as a small group meeting at the local library quickly grew into something much larger. Rabbi Levi and Chana Sputz organized events such as Purim parties, public Menorah lightings, and even placed a Menorah at the Nevada State Capitol. As the community continued to grow, one thing became clear—there was a need for a permanent Jewish presence in Carson City.

Now, that time has come. Rabbi Levi and Chana Sputz are expanding their Shlichus by launching the first full-time Jewish organization in Carson City. This new venture will build on their ongoing classes and activities, allowing them to reach even more people while continuing to serve the broader Northern Nevada area.

“We are thrilled to establish a home for Jewish life in Carson City,” says Rabbi Levi Sputz. “For years, the local Jewish population has expressed the need for consistent Jewish programs and resources close to home. We are excited to provide a space where every Jew in Carson City can feel welcomed, connected, and supported. And with the influx of Jewish legislators and staff during the legislative season, we’re looking forward to making them feel at home as well.”

The Sputzes were appointed by West Coast Head Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Cunin and the regional director of Chabad of Northern Nevada, Rabbi Mendel Cunin.
