Mrs. Enid Green, 79, AH

Mrs. Enid Green, a founding member and pillar of the Alaskan Jewish community, and mother of Max Green of Crown Heights, passed away. Shiva will be held in Crown Heights.

Mrs. Enid Green, a founding member and pillar of the Alaskan Jewish community, passed away on Tuesday, 17 Teves, 5783.

She was 79 years old.

Born in NY in 1943, she moved to Alaska after she married her dear husband Mr. Jerry Green OBM. Together with her husband, she was a leading force in the growth and establishment of the Alaska Jewish community.

In 1972, when the Rebbe sent Rabbi Sholom Ber Levitin to serve as the Head Shliach to the Pacific Northwest, which included Alaska, Enid Green and her husband Jerry were instrumental in welcoming and introducing Rabbi Levitin to the Alaska Jewish Community and cultivated a lasting friendship with the Rebbe’s Shluchim.

Mrs. Green and her husband were instrumental in the establishment of the Lubavitch Jewish Center of Alaska with the Rebbe’s Shluchim, Rabbi Yosef and Esty Greenberg. She was involved and passionate about the activities and programs of Chabad of Alaska until her passing.

Together with her husband, they were major supporters in every milestone of the growth of Alaska’s Chabad – from purchasing the first Chabad House, to the property of the Mikvah and finally the purchasing of the Chabad Lubavitch Alaska Jewish Campus and Alaska Jewish Museum.

As a leader for many years of the Local Chapter of The Hadassah Women’s Organization, Enid was one of those people who understood the Rebbe’s vision to be there for every Jew and every human being and make Judaism available to everyone on each level.

Enid was known for her Chanukah and Judaica gift shop at Chabad of Alaska and for her outstanding love of Judaica merchandise.

After Mrs. Green’s passing, Head Shliach to Alaska Rabbi Greenberg said: “Mrs. Green’s generosity and dedication to Yiddishkeit and the Rebbe’s work have enabled countless individuals and families to re-identify with their faith and strengthen their Jewish observance.”

Mrs Enid Green is survived by her children, Sara Green, David Green – Anchorage, AK; Max Green – Crown Heights; daughter-in-law Shani Green, and grandchildren, Jack, Jordan and Ruth – Anchorage, AK.

She is also survived by her sister Roxanne Reff, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Perry and Gloria Green.

The burial is taking place today, Wednesday, in the Bikur Cholim cemetery in Seattle, Washington.
