Two fires broke out this week at the Chabad Center for Jewish Life in Portland, Oregon, causing extensive damage and prompting an arson investigation.
The first fire broke out on Friday night and the second fire broke out on Wednesday, at 2:44 AM.
“Thank G-d no one was hurt, and the Torahs were not present, as they were removed previously to be used by outdoor minyonim,” shliach Rabbi Motti Wilhelm told Anash.org.
The shluchim, headed by Rabbi Moshe and Devorah Wilhelm said that the fires were currently being investigated by an arson team and they don’t have access to the building and are unable to comment as to motives or causes at this time.
“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we have been receiving,” Rabbi Motti Wilhelm said. “Our mission is to spread the love of our Creator, the love of Torah and the love of our fellows. Together as a community we passionately commit to doubling and redoubling our efforts in doing so.”
