After a series of miracles and procedures, Sydney Hatzalah volunteer Yanky Super was released from the hospital, taken home in a Hatzalah vehicle by fellow volunteer Mendy Litzman, who had rushed to treat him at the terror attack.

After 12 days in the hospital and multiple surgeries, Hatzolah volunteer Yanky Super was released from the hospital, following serious injuries sustained in the devastating Bondi Beach terror attack.

Yanky was among the first people wounded in the attack. He was shot from behind and did not see the shooter. The bullet caused significant internal damage, including a collapsed lung, and he was rushed into emergency care. He underwent a major surgery followed by several more surgical procedures. Miraculously, after twelve days, doctors said he was ready to go home, where he will continue his recovery.

In a deeply moving detail, Yanky was discharged from the hospital in a Hatzalah vehicle, as he had driven countless times to help others. He was driven by Mendy Litzman, director of Sydney Hatzalah, who was among the first responders at the scene of the attack. While shots were still being fired, he and other paramedics rushed in without hesitation. Since the attack, Mendy has remained closely involved, assisting victims and families day and night with remarkable dedication.

Yanky’s survival has been marked by a series of nissim, as he shared in an interview from his hospital bed. He had been on duty in his role as a Hatzolah volunteer at the Bondi Beach Chanukah event when the bullet that struck him was partially stopped by his radio equipment, sparing what could have been a fatal injury. He was not wearing his usual high-visibility vest at the time, something that prevented him from being immediately identified as a responder and targeted again. An off-duty Jewish doctor who happened to hear about the shooting arrived at the hospital just in time and was directly involved in Yanky’s lifesaving care.

Now home, Yanky is surrounded by family as he begins the next stage of healing. Although he is out of danger, he will need time to regain his strength and fully recover from his injuries.

Please continue davening for a refuah shleimah for Yaakov Dov ben Penina, along with all those wounded in the attack.

A fundraising campaign has been set up to help Yanky and his family cover medical and recovery-related expenses as he continues on this road to full health.
