The renowned “Gerrer Rosh Yeshiva,” Harav Shaul Alter, who is today a leader to hundreds of Gerrer families, paid a visit to Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Chitrik, head of the Bais Chana Seminary in Tzfas. Rabbi Chitrik fell ill while with his students in Chevron and is currently recovering in a hospital in Yerushalayim.
“If the Rebbe said that he is with the shluchim, then he is surely here with you and is taking care of you,” the Rosh Yeshiva told Rabbi Chitrik.
In the middle of a discussion of the Rebbe’s and the Alter Rebbe’s words, the Gerrer Rosh Yeshiva took out a 100 NIS bill and gave it to Rabbi Chitrik’s son. He explained that years earlier, he had reached out to Rabbi Chitrik for a source for a teaching of the Rebbe that Rabbi Chitrik had quoted in an article in Kfar Chabad Magazine. Rabbi Chitrik didn’t suffice with providing the source, but he sent him the actual sefer by mail.
Rabbi Chitrik tried to refuse the money, but the Rosh Yeshiva insisted, quoting the Rebbe that “for a sefer one must pay,” and it could be donated towards a moisad of the Rebbe.
