Full-Time Mitzvah Tank to Serve Rural Arizona

Chabad of Rural Arizona has announced the development of Arizona’s only full–time, year–round Mitzva Tank, dedicated to serving Jewish communities across the rural northeastern region of the state.

The Mitzva Tank will function as a mobile Jewish center, bringing mitzvos, Torah education, and visible Jewish pride to Jews living in remote mountain towns, forest communities, and desert areas – many of whom have limited access to organized Jewish life.

Partial funding for the project has been made possible through Machane Israel’s Keren MaMoSh Mitzva Tank Initiative, established during the week of Gimmel Tammuz. Keren MaMoSh was established to strengthen Chabad–Lubavitch institutions worldwide through impactful outreach initiatives. The grant supports the creation and outfitting of the Mitzva Tank in partnership with MitzvahTankUSA.com.

“This Mitzva Tank represents the Rebbe’s vision in action by bringing Judaism to those living in rural cities,” said Rabbi Zalman Levertov, Head Shliach of Chabad of Arizona, who, together with his wife Tzippy, moved on shalichus to Arizona in 1977. “Jewish life must be proud, visible, and accessible everywhere – especially in places where Jews may feel isolated.”

Chabad of Rural Arizona operates under the auspices of Chabad of Arizona and has significantly expanded Jewish programming throughout the region in recent years. The Mitzva Tank will serve as a traveling hub for mitzva campaigns, holiday celebrations, education, and personal outreach.

“With this Mitzva Tank, Jewish life will come to people instead of people having to search for it,” said Rabbi Yaakov Cahnman, Director of Chabad of Rural Arizona. “For many Jews in these areas, this may be their first direct encounter with vibrant Jewish life.”

Iy”H, the wrap design, exterior branding, and a 360–degree camera security system are expected to be completed by the end of January. The latest draft of the design can be viewed at JewishRuralAZ.org.
