As Jews worldwide celebrate Chanukah, the Palestinian Authority was busy denouncing the newest “war crime” in Eretz Yisroel: A menorah placed on the roof of Me’aras HaMachpelah by Chabad of Chevron.
The menorah was erected for the first time last year, making it the first time in history a menorah was lit on top of Me’aras Hamechpela, the second holiest place for Yidden.
But for the Palestinian Authority, the placing of a Jewish symbol on top of a historic Jewish building is no less than a war crime…
“The occupation state [i.e. Israel]… is exploiting every opportunity, and particularly the so-called ‘Jewish holidays,’ to commit crimes and plans that desecrate our Islamic holy sites in Hebron,” Mahmoud Al-Habbash, PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the shluchim to Chevron are ignoring the latest provocation, as the many before it. They are focusing on bringing the joy of Chanukah to the residents and soldiers of Chevron.
“We are in the middle of an intense operation to bring the Light of Chanukah to thousands of brave soldiers guarding in the Hebron region and beyond,” said Chevron shliach Rabbi Mordechai Hellinger. “While the celebrations may be done differently this year, they definitely won’t be canceled!”
“We will be delivering over 8,000(!!) jelly donuts, 2500 personal Chanukah kits, and setting up 35 large menorahs for public lightings for the soldiers,” he told Anash.org.
