Eight bochurim recently completed a fruitful year in Boston, Massachusetts learning for semicha while spreading Yiddishkeit to the locals.

The Beis Medrash was formed following the stabbing attack in the summer of 5781, when shliach Rabbi Shlomo Noginsky was attacked at the entrance to the school. In response to the eight stabs he received, the shluchim pledged to bring eight bochurim to study and help build the community.

With the stated goal to help the students study the halachos necessary to head a community as a shliach or a community rabbi, the Beis Medrash focuses on halacha and its practical application in leading a community.

Over the course of a year, the students mastered the halachos of issuer v’heter in Shulchan Aruch and got tested by Rabbi Shneur Zalman Yeruslavsky, rov of the Chabad community in Elad who heads the semicha program at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Kiryat Gat. The talmidim had finished studying the material recently, with the guidance of Rabbi Noginsky.

Additionally, the students learned the halachos of chupa v’kiddushin and were tested by Rabbi Eliyahu Bar-Shalom, Chief Rabbi of Bat Yam, and even gained hands-on experience at chuppas conducted under the auspices of the Chabad House.

The bochurim also devote their energy to spreading Yiddishkeit to the locals. They put tefillin on hundreds of Yidden including dozens of karkaftas, and installed hundreds of mezuzahs. They also took a leading role in mivtza kashrus in the city and kashered tens of kitchens.

The program is currently accepting students for the upcoming year to join those who are interested in combining their learning with practical study and shlichus in the community as well.
