Despite the ongoing war in Eretz Yisrael, Yeshivas Kayitz Tzeirei Hashluchim (YKTH) recently concluded its annual six-week summer program in Tzfas, providing 115 bochurim with a unique environment of learning, camaraderie, and inspiration.
Under the leadership of Rabbis Chaim and Zalman Kaplan and directed by Eli Rosenfeld, the program combined a rigorous learning program with recreation and travel, creating what participants described as the summer of a lifetime.
A hallmark of YKTH is its innovative approach to learning. Alongside the traditional Chassidus and Gemara, the bochurim participated in Aliba D’Hilchasa, a curriculum developed by JLI exclusively for YKTH. Each week began with a video presenting a modern case or scenario, which the Bochrim then analyzed through the lens of Gemara and Halacha. This method underscored the enduring relevance of Torah in contemporary life.
Several additional programs further enriched the learning experience. L’Orca U’Lirochba explored the history and significance of cities across Eretz Yisrael, which the bochurim later visited. The “Electives” track allowed each student to choose areas of personal interest, while the evening Seder Erev featured rotating guest speakers and interactive events that kept the learning dynamic and engaging.
Among the summer’s most exciting initiatives was Mivtza Elite, which encouraged participants to take on new personal hachlatos in Darchei Chassidus. Those who excelled were rewarded with exclusive events, limited-edition merchandise, and other prizes.
A particularly meaningful campaign was the Maamar for Shmuel Mivtza, established in memory of Shmuel A”H ben R’ Osher Karnowsky, a beloved former YKTH participant. Each Shabbos, many bochurim memorized a Maamar of the Rebbe and were rewarded with a horseback ride through the forests of Tzfas. Another highly successful initiative, Mitzvah Torah, motivated bochurim to learn two additional prokim of Gemara during their free time, culminating in a paragliding adventure off Netanya’s cliffs.
The program extended well beyond the classroom. Bochurim took part in inspiring journeys across Eretz Yisrael: exploring the ancient streets of Yerushalayim’s Old City, off-roading on ATVs, wading through Chizkiyahu’s water tunnels, hiking Har Arbel’s cliffs, and visiting the shores of Eilat. Each trip was designed to blend adventure, education, and spiritual growth, leaving participants with unforgettable memories.
This summer also carried a special mission of solidarity – with the victims of the Simchas Torah massacre and with the soldiers defending Eretz Yisrael. The bochurim visited Sderot, Reim, and other impacted areas, and joined soldiers on the Gaza border for a lively barbecue, strengthening bonds and raising spirits.
The summer concluded with a four-day grand trip. Highlights included spending Shabbos in the holy city of Chevron, walking in the footsteps of the Avos, and an excursion to the coastal city of Eilat, where scuba diving in the Red Sea left a lasting impression on all.
Much of the program’s success was credited to its devoted staff, led by Moshe Weiss, Levi Spalter, Arik Deren, and Matti Weingarten – who worked tirelessly to ensure that every bochur had an extraordinary experience. As participants return to their respective Yeshivas, they carry with them the inspiration, energy, and spiritual growth of a summer filled with meaningful learning and unforgettable adventures.
