On Thursday, 5 Elul, Cheder Chabad of Baltimore welcomed its students for the 5783 school year. The students were greeted with banners, balloons, and music creating a festive atmosphere. The signs depicted a Hakhel theme of gathering men, women and children of all ages.

The Gan children began with orientation. Every child had a chance to make a tailor-made project and meet their new Morahs. The girls elementary division began with an assembly and were divided into their respective classes. Followed by that, the middle school were inspired with a special activity. The boys division gathered for an assembly where the students were empowered to make this year successful in learning, davening, and serving Hashem before following their Rebbi’s to their classrooms.  A special supplies pouch with the Hakhel theme was given to each student by the PTA.

In its 16 years of operation, Cheder Chabad has swelled to 400 students, under the leadership of Maryland Head Shliach Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, and the direction of Rabbi Avrohom Wolowik, who serves as the cheder’s chief operating officer. This year alone, the Cheder has greeted close to twenty new families through its doors. Each new family was greeted with a welcome package from our dedicated PTA filled with useful information and guidance to smooth the transition into Baltimore and to the Cheder.

Led by Mrs. Chanie Raskin and Mrs. Rochel Ceitlin, Cheder Chabad’s Gan division boasts a full program for students from 18 months to 6 years of age. The elementary schools serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Leading the boys division is Rabbi Ephraim Sorkin along with stellar Rebbis dedicated to providing each child with an authentic Chassidishe Chinuch.  Mrs. Chana Pewzner, principal of the girls division, and her staff show care and concern for every student, nurturing them each to grow to be shining Bnos Chabad.

In addition, Cheder Chabad provides a wholesome General Studies program directed by Rabbi Yitzchok Menda. Students learn the fundamentals of math, science and social studies all while staying true to the directives of our Rabbeim and the pathways they have set out for each chossid.

A special thank you to our dedicated PTA and its presidents, Mrs. Ruti Rosenbloom, Mrs. Chana Wolosow and Mrs. Chaya Chazan for arranging and coordinating the welcome packages to the Cheder’s newest families and the welcome back to school display, and the special gifts given to the students.
