After 62 Years, Classmates Reunite

Veteran Chabad askan in Israel Rabbi Yaakov Gloiberman, put on Tefillin with his old friend and classmate Yossele Schuchmacher.

A moving encounter took place today at the offices of the Yad B’Yad organization in Lod. Rabbi Yaakov Gloiberman, director of Yad B’Yad, and Yossele Schuchmacher. The pair, who grew up together as children and studied in the Beit Yisrael Talmud Torah in Jerusalem, finally reunited after 62 years.

At the beginning of the meeting, Rabbi Gloiberman suggested to Yossele that he put on tefillin and he happily agreed.

Schuchmacher is famous for being at the center of a controversy in the early 1960s, between his religious grandparents, who wanted to raise him in a religious household and his secular parents.
