A glazier was called to 770 Eastern Parkway on Monday to make a delicate repair to the window of the Rebbe’s room, which had sustained two breaks in the recent past.
The repairs were undertaken by Rabbi Chaim Baruch Halberstam, who in his capacity as ‘Vaad Bedek Habayis’, is in charge of the upkeep of the upstairs zal and the original 770 building.
The window in question, like the other windows in the original 770 building, has a unique style, with the design of the window dividing the glass into many small segments instead of one large pane. Two such segments had broken recently, and efforts were made to repair those without removing the entire window.
After a few weeks of searching, a glazier was found who agreed to fix the window according to the specifications given. On Monday, he arrived in 770 and carefully removed the two pieces, then measured two identical pieces of glass to replace the broken ones.
It is unknown what had causes the damages, although it does not seem to have been intentional.
