The Reshet’s Empire: Chabad’s Ministry of Education

Seventy-three years ago, at the Rebbe’s request, Reshet Oholei Yosef Yitzchok was founded and named in honor of his father-in-law, the Frierdiker Rebbe.

Each year, on chag hageulah Yud Beis Tammuz, the Rebbe would hold a special magbis for the Reshet, asking all chassidim to donate. He offered incredible brachos to each donor, assuring them that Hashem would undoubtedly repay their generosity.

Since then, the Reshet has blossomed into an expansive “Ministry of Education,” catering to the educational needs of all segments of Eretz Yisrael’s Jewish population.

One of the fastest-growing school systems within the Reshet is the ‘Gan Chabad’ preschools. These preschools are in high demand, with 36 new Gan Chabad schools opening in a single year. Other branches include Beit Chinuch Chabad for children from frum homes and Talmud Torah Chabad for children from Lubavitcher families.

Arguably the most impressive network within the Reshet is the ‘Shalhavot Chabad’ schools. These schools serve the broader Jewish population, providing high-quality Jewish and secular education with a focus on innovative hybrid learning. This network has seen remarkable growth, with six new schools opening last year and more planned for the upcoming school year. Impressively, 10% of all new schools opening in Eretz Yisrael are Shalhavot Chabad schools.

One of the reasons for this tremendous growth is the increasingly secular nature of Israeli state schools. State-run schools increasingly shift towards “pluralism” and “multiculturalism,” leaving many Jewish parents searching for alternatives that preserve and teach Jewish values and traditions. Shalhavot Chabad schools offer a solution that resonates with these families, meeting a critical need in contemporary Israeli society.

“The Reshet is not an organization that was created to fulfill a specific need or fill a limited gap. Rather, it is the central body that deals with anything chinuch throughout the entire Eretz Yisroel,” says Rabbi Eliyahu Kritzevsky, CEO of Oholei Yosef Yitzchok. “Such a setup is unmatched in the USA, and perhaps the entire world. Here, they are all united under one mosad, the one created by the Rebbe for this purpose.”

In addition to its various school networks, the Reshet offers a comprehensive educational program for teachers called “Shluchei Chinuch,” enabling them to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The organization provides resources for each Yom Tov, educational games and content for students, and hosts conferences for teachers and students. Before each summer, Reshet prepares a complete curriculum for summer camps operating under the network, ensuring that education continues even during vacation.

In 2015, Reshet established a comprehensive online “Pedagogical Center,” which serves as a hub for centralized curriculum resources. This center is Chabad’s first online teaching network, offering tens of thousands of worksheets, presentations, tests, and other learning materials created by Oholei Yosef Yitzchok’s teachers and professional staff.

As Reshet Oholei Yosef Yitzchok continues to grow and expand, it remains committed to strengthening Eretz Yisroel through the Torah study of children, ensuring that the sacred values instilled by the Rebbeim continue to illuminate the lives of Jewish families across Eretz Yisrael. Your support can help sustain and expand this vital work, while bringing immense nachas to the Rebbe.
