The Rebbe’s View on Playing the Lottery

As the Mega Millions jackpot climbs to over $1 billion, Chabad Chassidim naturally want to know what is the Rebbe’s view on playing the lottery. Rabbi Yossi Paltiel answers.

The Mega Millions jackpot has skyrocketed to $1.02 billion after no ticket matched all six winning numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing.

If there is a winning ticket Friday, the $1.02 billion jackpot will be the third largest Mega Millions jackpot prize in the game’s 20-year history, according to the Mega Millions website.

Stump the Rabbi: The Rebbe told select individuals to buy lottery tickets. Why didn’t he publicly encourage people to buy lottery tickets if it’s apparently a worthwhile practice? Rabbi Yossi Paltiel answers.
