In what has become a tradition in the “Lone Star” state, the over 60 Shluchim couples serving Texas – led by Head Shliach Rabbi Shimon and Rebbetzin Chiena Lazaroff – gathered with their families in Houston for the annual Texas Shluchim Farbrengen on Sunday. The event featured 24 hours of farbrengens for the men, a full parallel program for the Shluchos, and exciting activities for the young Shluchim.
Texas is home to more than 100,000 Jews, and for many of them, Chabad is the only place where they can connect to their Yiddishkeit. Although the Shluchim are spread across the vast state, some living as far as 12 hours apart, gatherings like this allow them to reconnect, share experiences and challenges, and strengthen the feeling that they are truly one family.
This year’s program opened with a dinner for the Shluchim and their families, followed by a group photo and a packed schedule of activities for all ages. Children enjoyed a lively rally, bubble show, food art, and games in the gym, while the women held an inspiring farbrengen wth guest speaker, Rabbi Yoske Gopin of West Hartford, CT. Teens had their own programs and farbrengens, and later that night, the men concluded with a farbrengen of their own, lasting until the early morning hours.
Monday began with Chassidus, followed by Shacharis and brunch, before families set out for outings of their choice. The Shluchim families returned home Monday afternoon refreshed, uplifted, and ready to continue their vital shlichus across Texas.
